MIZ ART ~ Visual Arts Standards

Miz Art # 2

The Colorado Department of Education just released the new Visual Arts Standards.

Your Miz Art for the week is to read the standards (at the bottom of this blog post) and write about one of the standards:

1. Explain the standard in your own words (make sure you include which standard you are writing about).

2. How have we been using this standard in class?

3. How can we include this standard in our classes in the future?

VISUAL ARTS STANDARDS

1. Observe and Learn to Comprehend
The visual arts are a means for expression, communication and meaning making.

2. Envision and Critique to Reflect
Visual arts recognize, articulate, and implement critical thinking through the synthesis, evaluation and analysis of visual information.

3. Invent and Discover to Create
Generate works of art that employ unique ideas, feelings, and values using different media, technologies.

4. Relate and Connect to Transfer
Recognize, articulate, and validate the value of the visual arts to lifelong learning and the human experience.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! We all should celebrate his life and all that he did for our country.

Below are some of my favorite quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
For EXTRA CREDIT you may pick one (or all) and write about what the quote meant at the time, what it means now, or what it means to you. You can also pick another quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. that isn't listed here and write about it.

"Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

"I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

"That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

"The time is always right to do the right thing."
